Plans are underway to set Sunye Lake and Paleik Lake as wetlands in Singaing Township of Mandalay
Region for their conservation, said Singaing Township Constituency-2 MP U Hlaing Win.
After setting wetlands, the two lakes will be under conservation to safely host migratory birds and to ensure sustainable existence without harming the environment while improving living standard of the people through technological assistance, funding and legally effective management of the government, region level departments concerned, members of the parliament, local people and international non-governmental organizations and NGOs.
“Region Minister for Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation U Myo Thit during his trip to Singaing Township said how to set these lakes as wetlands. We welcome such attempts of conservation for wetlands. These lakes are under control of a department. Now, these lakes are leak in maintenance due to possession of businesspersons. It needs to systematically maintain the lakes with modern technologies.
Hence, Paleik lake can give safeshelter to migratory birds,” said U Hlaing Win. As Paleik and Sunye lakes are habitats of endangered species of migratory birds and water birds, it needs to set them as
wetlands under systematic conservation. In so doing, knowledge sharing of conserving the wetlands will
be undertaken for the local people.
